You are now going to hear a very important announcement issued by our leader, Subhas Chandra Bose. Our Leader Subhas Chandra Bose has issued the following statement which we would beg our listeners to broadcast throughout India. The statement begins: ‘After a great deal of careful preparation, we have decided to establish closer contact between our comrades living outside India and those comrades who are living at home. For this purpose we are going to use a modern and up-to-date instrument. We are going to make two experiments and watch the results. After these experiments we can decide our future plans. On Sunday 3rd May, the first batch of our comrades will be sent to India by plane and according to our calculations they will reach their destination in India in the early hours of the morning of 4th May, between two and three o’clock. After dropping the parachutists the aeroplane will return at once. We are purposely not giving out the exact place of arrival, because our enemies will then attempt to arrest our comrades. We know quite well that our comrades who are making this hazardous journey will be killed at once if they fall into the hands of our enemies. We request our co-workers, friends and sympathisers everywhere in India, to look out for aeroplanes and parachutes in the early hours of the morning of 4th May between two and three o’clock. As soon as they see the parachutes, they should kindly give all possible help to the parachutist comrades, give them shelter. Moreover, the article to be carried by the parachutist should be hidden in a safe place. When all this is done, the parachutes should be either buried under the earth or set fire to, so that there may not be any trace of them. In no case should they be burnt at night, because fire may attract enemy agents to the place. If all goes well on 4th May, then the second aeroplane will reach India on 8th May, in the early hours of the morning between two and three o’clock. It is not necessary for our comrades and friends in India to light any lamps as a signal, because that has already been arranged by our agents in India at the exact place where the aeroplane will arrive. Ordinarily it would not have been necessary to make an open announcement like this, which our enemies in India will naturally hear and note. It would have been enough to inform our agents secretly of the particular place where the parachutes will be dropped. But in such attempts one has always to provide against accidents, and since this is our fourth endeavour of this kind, we want to take all possible precautions that the comrades flying to India do not fall into enemy hands. That is why, after a great deal of hesitation, we have been forced to make a general appeal to our friends and sympathisers all over the country. We hope that, very
